Fantastic restaurant, with a very cozy and updated interior. It’s also wheelchair accessible with handicapped parking, a wheelchair ramp, as well as accessible seating and bathrooms. (At least in the womens bathroom). Great family restaurant, but also has a very nice bar!By Alyssa Miller (a year ago)The food was great, had the special NY Strip w/ snow crab …so good! The steak was cooked perfectly and didnt need any steak sauce, the smokey/ grill flavored was great! Kari our server was spot on, very attentive and knowledgable….we will go again next time we are in the area for sureBy Lisa B (7 months ago)First off, it seemed like the waitress forgot to put our order in as there were multiple parties with more people who had the same waitress, ordered later and got their food earlier.
Next the country skillet was small, the peppers were not cooked, and the dish was cold. The loaded and biscuits and gravy were alright, but the gravy was definitely canned and there was hardly any bacon in them, mostly hash browns.
Finally, the pancakes were not cooked all the way, the strawberries weren’t great, and the syrup, despite saying on the menu it was maple syrup, tasted like dollar-store sugar syrup.
By Daniel Smith (5 months ago)The atmosphere here is eclectic. In the bar area it’s dark with great tin ceilings and the dining section is mostly wood and very bright. It mixes into a very inviting environment.I actually came here, heck came to Manistee, because they had a Bourbon Steak! So I ordered the Bourbon Glazed Ribeye ($31) with Mashed Potatoes and Applesauce. While the steak was cooked Perfectly Medium, it was a little bit of a disappointment. This isn’t to say it was bad, it was in fact very good, this is sad because I had hope of excellence. Also too much gristle for my liking. That being said the Mashed Potatoes were excellent, in fact my favorite thing of the night. Maybe top 5, I’ve ever had. The applesauce was good. I ordered a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. It started a little cold for my taste, however as it warmed up it became very good, easily the second best thing of the night!
The service was excellent. From start to finish my waitress was great.
Overall I’d give a 4 star review! Would I return? Yes, but I’d try something else. Still I recommend giving it a shot!
By Chris Hoekstra (a year ago)It was very busy the night we went. We were told it would be about a 20 minute wait, but we were seated in 10. Our waitress was cheerful and very attentive. Tried their Olive Swiss Burger and upgraded the meal to include Sweet Potato Fries. The burger was excellent and prepared just as I asked for it. The fries were thick, so they were crispy outside, but soft inside, again just how I like them. I was only able to eat 1/2 of the meal and it was delicious!By Beth Bobzien (5 months ago)

Have not been to an A&W in a very long time. It is not as good as I remembered. I ordered the fish and fries. It came with coleslaw. The coleslaw was the best part of the meal. The fish was so small and tasted like Gordon food service warmed up in the oven. Not in any hurry to go back. Also there was an older women working that seamed very grouchy and kind of rude to one of the younger girls working.By Marshall Perry (9 months ago)Great food, fast, and friendly service. Fun little place for some diner style food. The root beer float was perfect.By Darrin (Deadtriology) (5 months ago)Very good food and nice atmosphere! Bonded well with my dad for the first time in ages over burgers and tall mugs of root beer. There are little activities on the placemats and we did them together! I ordered the kids’ chicken tenders, they were wonderful and came with an activity book. Really good place to just talk over dinner. I saw a cool car in the parking lot!!!
OVERALL:
– nice and welcoming staff
– you can buy a glass bug for 5 dollars, they put it in a carryout bag with gift wrap
– good burgers, good chicken tenders, pretty good fries, and of course great root beer.
– activity mats for the kids but they don’t have crayons (as of the day i went)
– statue of the mascot, rooty the bear, by the cash register
– wonderful scenery around the areaI have no photos inside, but i got some nice ones around it and i wanna share them !!
By Sen DüLetters (Graggle) (a year ago)It doesn’t get any more old-school than a an A&W root beer stand. Grabbed a combo with a foot-long hotdog with Coney sauce and onions. Some kind of spicy ranch fries with lots of jalapeños. Not very good for me but I enjoyed it.By Shawn Belles (a year ago)I have ordered the cod dinner at the A&W in Frankfort before. I was amazed at the amount and quality of their thick, fluffy, pull apart fish dinner for only $12.99. Much like you’d get at a high end sit down restaurant, So much I couldn’t finish it all. I had a hankering for fish today and couldn’t wait to get some from the A&W in manistee. However, when I received my food in the drive through and opened it up I was really disappointed. I got two, 1/4inch thin, crunchy, silver dollar sized “pieces of cod”. Super super sad and crazy that it can vary so much from location to location. My husband ordered his meal with cheese curds (and paid the up charge) and got French fries. Not a great experience.By Rayanna Leonard (3 months ago)

Busy little place. It has good simple food. You order at the counter. I can be a bit noisy but it’s a place with kids and families. Items are served simply on paper plates/baskets and such. The food was decent. Good Pizza/Sub hangout spot. Check them out and see what you think!?!By Troy Zawacke (a year ago)Big Al’s is the best pizza place in all of the Manistee area, hands down. The sauce was premium, exceptional, and super tasty. The pizza was particularly filling and had tremendous flavor/taste. The breadsticks were stunning. Everything was immaculate really. All at an appropriate price as well. My friend that formally lived in Manistee informed me that this was the most satisfactory pizza establishment ever when I mentioned how Suttons Bay, Michigan had the Roman Wheel for their impressive pizza and I will say Big Al’s is undoubtedly a top prospect for competition against The Roman Wheel. I didn’t think I would ever declare that but yet here I am doing precisely that. This alone conveys plenty about the quality of pizza and food in general that is had here. I will absolutely return here again for certain.By XPoisonxxXxx (5 months ago)Made a hotel stay, much more enjoyable. We debated on getting the Chicago with just cheese as some of the reviews suggested and went with pepperoni, bacon instead. If you want lots of toppings, they definitely load it up. Next time we’re gonna try just cheese as it didn’t need any toppings. Quick, crisp crust, quality toppings and cheeseBy Marisol Seys (10 months ago)I’ve been going to Big Al’s since 1973!! My all-time favorite! I LOVE their Big Al’s Special (Sub) with sub-sauce!! Their cheese pizza is better than any other place’s pizzas with toppings!By Matt Hansen (a year ago)Nice subs w a pretty fantastic sub sauce. I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for sandwichesBy Zoe Cullen (8 months ago)

Definitely one of those don’t judge a book by its cover places. Great food and surprised by some of the options. Going to have to make it back for some broasted chicken and maybe to make some friends… felt a bit left out as an out of towner. Highly recommend the flying pig sandwich.By Marisol Seys (10 months ago)The atmosphere here is ECLECTIC! Lol, they have done an interesting job of decorating the walls with old knick knacks and Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe. The bar area has an old timey decorated barwall and tin ceilings. It all works to make a fun atmosphere.
I ordered the Broasted (2) Pork Chops ($14), with red skin potatoes and a garden salad ($2 upgrade). The pork chops looked great, taste wise though they were only a little above average. I needed ketchup to eat it. The salad was very good and redskins were excellent, my favorite thing in fact.
The service was excellent. Friendly and quick even though they were packed and hectic.
Overall a 3 1/2 star review. Since I need to round, I’ve decided to go up. This is because they seem really popular and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Would I return? Yes, I would give them a 2nd chance, only I’d get something else!
By Chris Hoekstra (a year ago)We came into town for an autumn color tour. decided to try this place.
Smaller than the pictures, but great atmosphere. Wasn’t busy, saw locals, people that had probably dined there many times, bikers, kids…
I had the pepper jack and bacon burger with sidewinder fries, sides of beer cheese, bourbon sauce, and lady sauce. It was excellent. Probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Honestly. Very nice people there. I highly recommend this oneBy Paul Martini (3 months ago)It’s a pretty good experience most times we go there. The only bad part is that unless you get there before 4PM in the summer, it won’t be easy to get a decent place to park so I end up having to go someplace else. But the staff is very friendly and the food is really good, the prices are extremely decent too which makes it that much more attractive. I do wish there was a way to renovate the entrance though because that big step can be a bit much to get up and down, especially when things are a bit hectic and you’re trying to rush. Otherwise, good stuff!By Thomas Breece (5 months ago)We stopped here for dinner on a Friday, and the place was packed. Good reason, as the service was great and friendly, and the food was really above expectations. The broasted chicken was delicious and even the mashed potatoes were good. Prices are very reasonable, and the decor was eclectic, which was what you would come to expect from the name of the restaurant. If I lived nearer, this would be my regular dinner stop. It’s that good!By Greg Spiewak (5 months ago)

Very good food a step above normal tavern fare. Garlic shrimp was very good. Meatball was excellent. Ruben was good and marble bread was a nice touch. House made chips added to the sandwich. Only complaint is that the place was loaded with flies. Had to keep waving them away from the food. Maybe that time of the year for them.By J Hytken (3 months ago)Checked into the Ramsdell Inn on the upper floors and after a 9 hour drive stumbled upon this place. Unbeknownst to us, it was our lucky night as Thursday is 1/2 priced appetizers until 8pm. The app menu was so varied we ordered 4 of them with completely different flavors. The service was great! Come early as there was people waiting for tables shortly after we arrived at 5pm. Sorry for the half empty plate pictures, it was so good I forgot!By Cathy Ken H (3 months ago)Looked empty so I was a little worried. Walked in and it was packed. Pesto chicken dish was good. Iced tea was good. Lots on the menu that looked interesting . Cool old time setting. Nice area.By Lori Stehlin (4 months ago)We were downtown Manistee and found this great little pub. For starters, it’s in a fantastically cool building. You can dine outside or step down into the pub. It’s small, cozy, busy and still has a welcoming efficient air. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered the bruschetta for starters and it was quite good. Our food didn’t disappoint either! Reasonable prices in todays world.By Julie Smith (5 months ago)We had lunch here this afternoon. We split an Americana and club sandwich. Both were excellent! Plenty of meat on both. We also split the Smokey bacon macaroni and cheese. We won’t have to eat for the rest of the day now! I almost forgot to mention the two bloody Marys, they’re very good too!By Dan Balasses (8 months ago)
