Amazing restaurant! Great vibes, delicious oysters & hush puppies, the best service. Everything came out quickly, correct, and tasted delicious!

The oysters came with a fun an tasty sauce arrangement. There was a cool oyster shell chandelier in the women’s bathroom (the men’s was sadly lacking such decor). Our waitress Amanda was very helpful answering all our questions and humoring our request for a good beach to visit while we were there.

It was our friends birthday and they brought her a free slice of key lime pie! No theatrics or singing, which we were grateful for.

We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very busy at all.

Definitely recommend, and we will definitely be back next time we are in the area!

Me and my family LOVED it. We went for my mothers in laws birthday and our waiter Matt was great! He even asked if we wanted to order my one year olds food first to get it out fast. (It was really thoughtful) I would recommend trying this spot. The service was fast and everybody was nice and the food was really good!! 100/10 from me!

Fresh fish and friendly staff make this a great place to experience when in the area. Food was a bit salty for my personal tastes but I appreciated the fact that the meat was seasoned. Drinks were ok – strong for sure. She Crab Soup was my fave. Appears to be a local fave and we came after the recommendation from our hotel staff. Our waitress Amber was extremely helpful and friendly even while she was very pregnant. Recommend.

Added a photo of my husband’s scallops because they were plated so beautifully! This place is amazing. We always have a difficult time finding a seafood restaurant (husband’s favorite food) because of my severe shellfish allergy. Harpoon Larry’s went above and beyond to accommodate us. Staff was super helpful and sweet. They food was absolutely wonderful! 11/10, we will definitely be back. This is now one of our favorite spots in Hampton Roads!!

We had a group of 14 with 1 handicapped person. We were only offered high top tables which was difficult for our handicapped person. Also they pushed 2 tables together and we were sitting elbow to elbow. We convinced them to add another table so we could be comfortable. The waiter did not clear the table during our meal. We were dealing with stacks of dirty dishes through our meal. The crab dip appetizer was tasty but the rest of the food was unimpressive. Our Treasurer made the comment that we would not come back here again.

4.5 stars, 5 stars for the service. The only reason I took 1/2 star is because the crab cake was not at Virginia standards especially at a place called Crab Shack. However, Fried Calamari are at high end Italian level 100%, Oysters 10/10 and blackened Tuna bites as well. It is always refreshing to hear that a restaurant is out of a menu item, it tells me that it is fresh. Second time here and it is becoming a usual. Ambiance is unbeatable and I live 6 minutes away. Cocktails are on the strong side.

Amanda was a great server, the food was delicious (crab legs and tuna sandwich), the banana margarita was awesome, and got the carrot cake to go! Love the views at the Crab Shack on the James… just wish I could have ordered the clams casino, which they don’t have on the menu anymore, but everything else was good.

“A rising tide lifts all boats.” I would like to think–as every individual does– that I am the center of the Universe, and that what I think or say will fall like thunderbolts to modify the rough edges I discover. Crab Shack on the James is a tough nut even for thunderbolts–it has been around for a long time now, and has been getting away with what it has been getting away with for years, accumulating 2,060 reviews on Google Maps alone.

I think it has earned the 3.9 points that these reviews have averaged, and not quite the 4.0 points that I award here. Who is settling for marginal mediocrity? Few would argue, I think, that the location is not ideal for a seafood restaurant, although the view is not the Mighty Rolling Atlantic Ocean, but the somewhat more modest Historic Mother of the Jamestown Colony–still, there is a miles-broad expanse of the James River to contemplate while you await your cocktails and your seafood dinner. What has happened here, I am afraid, is that the Crab Shack on the James is content to stick at 3.9 for the next eternity–perhaps even to slide on down to 3.0 over time.

You can dine here without dying unless you are allergic to seafood. You might get drunk here without really enjoying your beverage of choice. I do not know whether Crab Shack actually has a Chef–or a Bartender, for that matter–at present: and if it is content to scuttle its claws across ancient seas interminably, we may anticipate no aspiration, no modification, no challenges to the palate.

What we have is lots o’ food, fried or broiled; decent salads, decent french fries, decent service, ordinary prices for what we get. Launched on the Twenty-First Century waters, perhaps the discoveries are over at Crab Shack on the James. I would like to feel it would shoot for a 5.

But something deep will have to change.

Wanted to try something different , went around 3pm on a Friday, with my daughter and uncle, definitely recommend , crab shack has something for all age groups! Definitely recommend the hush puppies and enjoyed the crabcake sandwich with slaw! Anna was our waitress, she’s very attentive and nice!

Restaurant was out of alot of item, including crab. How could a place called Crab House be out of crab. Service sucked. Never saw our waitress. Food was okay for seafood and for the price. Asked for more dressing for cole slaw from waitress and host took 10 min to get it. View was absolutely beautiful.

I placed my order online requesting a specific time for pickup. When I arrived 5 minutes late my order still wasn’t ready and had to wait an additional 10 minutes for my food. It was a very emotional day as I buried my father this day and my fault for not checking my order even though I shouldn’t have to. I got home unpacking my order and discovered food missing. I called immediately and spoke with a manger Charlie. I advised I was missing the stuffed mushrooms and it took quite a while to locate my ticket. Then advised I requested rice with a meal and never received she indicated that the cook put it in separate container and it was packaged making me feel like she was indicating I was lying. I didn’t bring up the fact that I should have gotten 16 biscuits and only received 14 as per what the receipt reflects I guess 12 plus 4 (I ordered two meals) is 14. She indicated that she would give a refund for the appetizer and for the rice that really isn’t charged but included with the meal….a meal that I ordered rice with and didn’t get. I was under the impression that I would get $10 then $2 for the rice and she immediately processed the refund and stated it would take 7 business days for me to get depending upon my bank..i thought a little more than $12 because of taxes. Well two days is what my bank takes so I called and well to my surprise the refund was just completed today two days I got the food on 06/22/2022. And now I am only getting $10 refund and was offered a gift card for a dollar and some change because rice isn’t being charged to me. So what I am being offered is even less than what I paid for the appetizer as the appetizer is $9.99 plus tax. Thanks Red Lobster for what should have been a celebration meal for my dad turnes into a terrible experience and slap in the face. Making sure I leave this review before I leave your parking lot.

Food was burnt and disgusting. The shrimp Rangoon was burnt, toast was burnt, lobster dip was less than half cup. I began vomiting immediately after I tried to eat what I thought was edible. Couldn’t even make to br. Not my 1st time getting burnt shrimp Rangoon

My husband and I thought someone would have to carry us to our car we ate so much! The food was incredibly delicious 😋. Our server Arron was awesome! He kept our refills coming, and checked in with us just enough. We’re going back when I don’t feel like cooking again.

The portions of food were amazing for the price.
We got the tempura tuna and it was absolutely delicious! Not to mention they serve bread with the pesto olive oil mix, which is delicious as well.
Our server Stephanie was super nice and pleasurable and made sure we were taken care of.

I would go back, and next time go for happy hour, which I heard is great!

My wife suggested this place. I wasn’t really sure, but I was very hungry, so I agreed.
    It was the right choice.
Our server, Melissa, was fantastic. She knew the menu and had no difficulty making a suggestion when I was at an impasse.
My 1/2 # burger was excellent, and the fries were super (crispy!).
My wife’s steak and green beans were also cooked to perfection!
The bread with olive oil was wonderful, too.
    We’ll be back!

Always completely satisfied when I eat here at Bonefish Grill. I’m a fish lover and they always have a great selection. This visit was for takeout. I got the Parmesan Crusted Rainbow Trout. It nearly took up the whole plate. It was plump, tender, delicious and zero bones. The meat lovers all got the Filet Mignon cooked medium, with not a single complaint. They ate every bite! I got their new Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts instead of the vege of the day. They were the best I’ve ever had! The only comment from the rest, was that they would prefer a sauteed spinach over their menu regular creamed spinach.

Never again! Whenever I’ve gone to the NN location the food and service were really good. I went tonight in hopes that they’d redeem themselves from my last visit (the service was HORRIBLE) but it was in vain. I haven’t eaten any of my entree and the portion literally looks like it has been eaten. The waitress was much better than the last one but I’m just over this location. I’ll be frequenting another.

Pre covid I enjoyed eating at Hoss’s. Today was hubby and I first time back and the drinks was watered down, the Oyster Rockefeller had lots of filling but the oyster was the size of a clam ( I sent it back). The nachos was delicious and the wings where great. The waitress was nice but serve was slow. All n all I will give them another chance.

My husband and I both enjoy it here and have liked just about everything that we have tried on the menu with the exception of the crab cakes. For me they have entirely too much Old Bay type spice on them. I know that these are popular but not to my liking. They make a great burger and we really enjoy their buffalo and boom boom shrimp. We like the local bar atmosphere and there’s usually pretty good music playing on the jukebox.

Great place to grab a drink. Ran into some old friends and had the best bartender in town. We had left a 5 star restaurant to grab a drink on the way home and Bela made a drink for my friend that she said was better than any drink we had at the 5 star place.
