I have been to Wintzell’s many time over the years. Throughout that time I’ve had many very good meals. Unfortunately for this night I had the fried catfish and immediately with the first taste I knew I was not going to enjoy the meal. The fish had a very strong, dirty taste. I understand this is not the fault of the restaurant it happens, but I will say it was disappointing. On the other hand, our server could not be more kind and attentive and took care of us the entire time we were there I will not hold this against Wintzell’s. I do recommend if you get seafood that is marked market price you may want to ask as we got the crab claws appetizer and it turned out to be $29. I will come here again on my next visit.

Asked by management the name of our server it was Jordan. She did an excellent job.By Teakeyman (2 months ago)Our first time here and really really enjoyed it. There were not that many people but a good little lunch crowd. When we walked in, their health score was posted next to the hostess stand and was a 74. We were seated instantly, and served out drinks in five minutes. We ordered two shrimp baskets, one with coleslaw the other with French fries. The fried shrimp was absolutely delicious! They were very nice size and crispy. The cocktail sauce went with it very well by adding a slight spice. We also got the baked oysters topped with bacon, cheese and jalapeños. As it was out very first time trying baked oysters, they were really good. Our food came out to us in about 20 minutes. We enjoyed everything on our plate & will be back!By K N (4 months ago)Incredibly cool ambience, from the hundreds of plaques on the wall, with all these interesting saying all the way to to the crab traps on the ceiling. Great service, perfectly placed near the Riverwalk downtown. The food was amazing. Definitely worth the extra calories.By Wallace Floyd (3 months ago)We were at a conference for work and we all went out for dinner as a group. I applaud for waitress for being able to handle the large group of people we had. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and the fried catfish dinner. It was so much food for the cost and it was all so delicious. I will definitely be back whenever I am in town.By Ayanna Thomas (8 months ago)There was a long wait but that’s because they were short staffed. Being it’s Memorial Day weekend, call outs are inevitable. The food was good fresh and hot! We’re from GA so we wanted seafood from the coast and Wintzell’s in Montgomery AL didn’t disappoint!By Bernita Weston (7 months ago)

After this place being in Montgomery for a while now, decided to give it a try. It took us about 10 minutes to be seated even though no one was really there. Our waiter came and took our order but he was very soft spoken and hard to understand and seemed a bit new and couldn’t really answer some of the questions we had about the menu and other inquiries. I got a double steamed shrimp that was served with corn and potatoes. The shrimp were large and it was a lot of food. ( 1 lb. Of shrimp). Though some of the shrimp seemed a little over cooked, for the most part they were pretty good as well as the corn. I was too full to eat the potatoes as we also partook in some fried calamari which were pretty tasty which filled me up even more. Other members of my party seemed to enjoy theirs as well, one getting fried shrimp and oysters with onion rings. As you can see in this photo that plate was large as well. Again the shrimp were large and pretty tasty. The oysters had a bit of an odd flavor. Almost like a brackish water aftertaste to them. I’ve had much better oysters elsewhere. The restaurant seemed clean but the very dimly lit dining area gave it a bit of a dreary, unkept vibe. The prices were very expensive as our total bill for 3 including tip came to about $105. Much more than I want to spend per person. As we came through the front entry area I noticed that the health rating was up and oh my it was an 80 rating. This concerned me greatly. We tried to take a look at it and the best we could make out was that there was mold in one of the ice bins and there were fruit flies in the bar area. We didn’t get to see what else may have been wrong. For this alone, I will probably not be back and is the main reason for the two-star rating. In addition, that’s just too much out of my price range.By Craig Myers (4 months ago)We were seated right away, looked cleaned and well maintained. Our food was delivered hot and in a timely manner! The service was also very good. I would recommend this restaurant to seafood lovers.By Monique Jackson (7 months ago)The food had great taste and good portion, now for what I was so skeptical was what other reviewers were talking about, the restrooms. They do need attention. In the women’s there is only two stalls and for them to be dirty is not healthy. I had to flush one in order to use it, but here are some pictures.By Julia Rodriguez (2 months ago)Food is delicious. The Cajun seasoning is my favorite so far, got to go back and try their juicy seasoning. The shrimp and crab were great but the real star for me was the potato’s and sausage at the bottom of the bag. Spicy food lovers will enjoy this place a lot.By Michael micale (4 months ago)This place also surprisingly awesome! My waiter was great, the was even better, and my drinks were just a little strong but I did enjoy the atmosphere there. Will definitely be coming back often. The prices were acceptable as well!!By Marisa Gilmore (a month ago)

Great Dining Experience. We asked to be seated in the Bar area to watch a Football game. Waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Observed the Health Rating of 98 in the Lobby and low enough to be seen. Our Waiter, Josh, was also the bar Mix Master. He was very nice and did a good job. The food was delicious, but the 4 grilled Scallops that were about the size of a quarter and 1/2” thick were Not cooked all the way through. I don’t eat Sushi, so I told Josh, and they cooked 4 new ones for me. 3 were cooked but one was thicker and still raw in the middle. Taking it home to cook and eat later, I didn’t mention the second issue, but the Manager adjusted the bill a little for the scallops. Good time and good food.By Betsy Hammond Wilson (a year ago)The food was good and our server was very nice but I found out something about Red Lobster that I don’t like. I had been told by servers at other restaurants that if you leave a tip on a credit card, some restaurants won’t give it to the server so I always leave cash. I was informed that servers at Red Lobster have to split their tips left on a credit card with the bartender and bus person. PLEASE come prepared to any restaurant with cash for a tip. This person works 2 jobs just to make a living.By Paula M (5 months ago)I want to say our waitress and food were great!! We tipped our waitress very well!! No complaints about those items at all. My complaint is this…we were told our wait would be 30-40 mins.. that’s normal, so no biggie. However, it turned into over an hour. If we had known that we would have gone elsewhere. Several families that walked in after us, were seated before us. I’m going to assume it was because they (host or hostess) were showing favoritism towards their friends, family, etc. I checked in twice with the host and hostess and was told we would be next. However, I watched another family walk in and get seated. We got up and started walking towards our car, then they told us our table was ready. As we walked thru the restaurant we could see the people that had just walked in and got seats a long time before we were seated. Not sure we’ll be making another trip to this location.By Malichi Seven (3 months ago)Delicious!!! Mariah our server was amazing as well!!
We will be back!By Mrs. Butler (3 months ago)If they can get control of the Freaknik that’s happening in the corner under the television this would be a great place to eat the manager managed to save me by giving me a seasoned experience server to make up the hostess and the service rude contributions. Red Lobster in Montgomery going down. The glove protocols at this location are unacceptable. Gloves are being worn at all times. The same gloves in and out of the kitchen to the front hostess stand picking up their telephone scratching in their hair picking up dirty plates delivering clean plates all with the same glove runBy schlanda hammond (3 months ago)

Looked up a pet-friendly restaurant near Maxwell AFB and found this gem! Has outdoor seating and they offer dogs water. It’s great. Except it’s so hot outside the patio during the summer! Either way, I enjoyed the food as best as I could because the server is so sweet; I missed the south just because of this. They call you honey and sweetie and treat you like their granddaughter. I love it. The oysters were fresh and I wish I had the time to try their seafood boil which everyone seemed to be opting for. They looked amazing. Check this place out! It’s hidden away but for a good reason.By Christina Paro (6 months ago)Honestly, probably the best seafood I’ve had in 10 years, and I used to work at an upscale seafood restaurant. The shrimp tasted like buttery lobster, and the oysters were the largest and the freshest I’ve ever had. Excellent fried okra and coleslaw as well. You really can’t miss out on this place, you gotta stop by if you’re in the area. 10/10By David Little (9 months ago)Fun local Montgomery restaurant on the banks of the Alabama river with views of downtown skyline. There was a live Blues band on Sunday so a cover charge to enter. Nice large outdoor patio and very good seafood selection. The gumbo was also very good and I’m picky about gumbo.By Danita Day (10 months ago)Folks this is a really iconic place. Don’t go here expecting some fancy restaurant with valet parking, tablecloths and waiters in white. But If you want some good fried seafood or ice cold oysters on the half shell and a laid back atmosphere with a view of the river then yes. This is what we call a dive but it’s not a derogatory term it’s just what it is. We had raw then po-boys. You cannot go wrong. Sit out back on the porch. This is a great stopping point if you’re headed south to the beach. Decent service and good food.
We will definitely be going back.

Food was fresh, piping hot, and good. We went on a Sunday around 1p and it was not crowded as we had expected. The atmosphere was great. The music selection was great and the staff was super nice. Will definitely return for good food and good service. Oh, the drinks were fantastic!By shantell cleveland (7 months ago)Tried Juicy Crab for the first time. Staff seemed a little inatentive as we had to interrupt two employees in conversation to be seated. The menu is composed of fixed meals and a la carte fare. Prices are as you would expect but food is plentiful, just don’t expect to get out for less than $25 per person. I ordered the half pound shrimp, mussels and sausage, mild and juicy. Juicy, by the way is every seasoning. My companions split the pound of headless and pound of head on shrimp. The meal arrived after a short wait. You are presented with a waste bucket, bibs, and gloves to make the rather messy meal less so. I found the seasoning overwhelming, completely hiding the taste of the mussels, the shrimp less so but still more seasoning than shrimp. My companions felt the seasoning was heavy but still good. All in all it was fine and will probably eat her again but don’t look for it to become a regular staple on the dinner circuit as the dinner for three, with tip and no drinks, was $75. And remember, two people split an entree.By Timothy Reynolds (10 months ago)Let me get this out first. If you are in Montgomery or somewhere close and if you love southern boil and seafood, please make it a point and go eat at this restaurant, you will thank me later. Our experience here was fantastic. My sister took me here and I can’t thank her enough for that. The place is just lively and full of life. The servers are all energetic and seemed to love what they were doing, which is great. The management must treat them right.
The restaurant has a warm ambience and is really clean. The tiki hut at the entrance was a really nice touch and makes you feel at ease right away. The restaurant can host large groups, too. Our server was Alexis and she was really pleasant. The menu has a mix of seafood and southern fried foods. Also features a kids menu. I ordered some raw oysters. They also have boiled and fried ones. Had been a minute I had tried some. It was pretty fresh and tasted amazing, buttery and creamy. My sister ordered the half pound shrimp(no heads) with cajun seasoning. Came in a large bag with potato and corn and was piping hot. I tried some and my god they were so good. The seasoning was just perfect. Southern taste at its best. I got myself the seafood combo with crawfish, black mussels and shrimp. Came in a large plastic bag, too, piping hot, with whole potatoes and corn. I opted for the juicy crab special seasoning and wow, the flavors, they just exploded in my mouth. The seasoning was a perfect blend of butter, lemon pepper, cajun seasoning. It was just heaven. The crawfish and black mussels felt great. Although it was mid of July when we were here, the crawfish felt fresh to me. The potatoes and corn were other highlights. We truly enjoyed our experience here. It’s a must visit in my opinion.
So, what makes this restaurant amazing; the happy and energetic staff, the amazing southern taste and the laidback ambience that makes you feel you are on an island right in the middle of Alabama. It’s amazing. We actually went back the other day and ordered the same exact things as takeout. It was that great and the portions are great, too. Highly recommended. Just have one suggestion for the management. We were seated on the booth by the window, which is on a raised platform and it’s really narrow and my sister tripped twice on it while getting down. It wasn’t hard for me to see why as the platform is really narrow and it’s really hard to see it apart from the floor. Not a big issue I guess but could be dangerous at the same time. Overall, a big thumbs up for me.
By Deepak KC (5 months ago)Sometimes you just want to release some stress and enjoy the atmosphere. If this is what you want, come to The Juicy Crab for every day Happy Hour. I wasn’t in the mood this time for seafood so I ordered the Juicy Special boiled eggs along with a refreshing $5.00 margarita. I enjoyed great company and had great service. Thanks Payton! You are the best😊By Michelle Spell (12 months ago)My husband and I just had one of the best experiences at the Juicy Crab! Our food was hot and delicious , and our server, Jamya, was awesome!
