Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly called Washington or D.C., is the capital city and the federal district of the United States. The city is located on the east bank of the Potomac River, which forms its southwestern border with Virginia and borders Maryland to its north and east. Washington, D.C. was named for George Washington, a Founding Father, victorious commanding general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and the first president of the United States, who is widely considered the "Father of his country". The district is named for Columbia, the female personification of the nation.
Washington, D.C. anchors the southern end of the Northeast megalopolis, one of the nation's largest and most influential cultural, political, and economic regions that also includes some of the nation's largest and most prominent cities, including Baltimore, Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia. As the seat of the U.S. federal government and several international organizations, the city is an important world political capital. The city had 20.7 million domestic visitors and 1.2 million international visitors, ranking seventh among U.S. cities as of 2022.The U.S. Constitution provides for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress. As such, Washington, D.C. is not part of any state, nor is it one itself. The Residence Act, adopted on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of the capital district along the Potomac River. The city was founded in 1791, and Congress held its first session there in 1800. In 1801, the District of Columbia, formerly part of Maryland and Virginia and including the existing settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria, was officially recognized as the federal district; the city initially comprised only a portion of its modern territory, as a distinct entity within the larger federal district. In 1846, Congress returned the land originally ceded by Virginia, including the city of Alexandria. In 1871, it created a single municipal government for the remaining portion of the district, though locally elected government lasted only three years and did not return for over a century. There have been several unsuccessful efforts to make the district into a state since the 1880s; a statehood bill passed the House of Representatives in 2021 but was not adopted by the U.S. Senate.Designed in 1791 by Pierre Charles L'Enfant, the city is divided into quadrants, which are centered around the Capitol and include 131 neighborhoods. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 689,545, making it the 23rd-most populous city in the U.S., third-most populous city in the Southeast after Jacksonville and Charlotte, and third-most populous city in the Mid-Atlantic after New York City and Philadelphia. Commuters from the city's Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's daytime population to more than one million during the workweek. The Washington metropolitan area, which includes parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, is the country's sixth-largest metropolitan area with a 2020 population of 6.3 million residents. The city hosts all three branches of the U.S. federal government, Congress (legislative), the president (executive), and the Supreme Court (judicial), and the governmental buildings that house most of the federal government, including the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court Building, and multiple federal departments and agencies. The city is home to many national monuments and museums, located primarily on or around the National Mall, including the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument. The city hosts 177 foreign embassies and serves as the headquarters for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization of American States, and other international organizations. Many of the nation's largest industry associations, non-profit organizations, and think tanks are based in the city, including AARP, American Red Cross, Atlantic Council, Brookings Institution, National Geographic Society, The Heritage Foundation, Wilson Center, and others.
A locally elected mayor and 13-member council have governed the district since 1973, though Congress is empowered to overturn local laws. Washington, D.C. residents are, on a federal level, politically disenfranchised since the city's residents do not have voting representation in Congress, although the city's residents elect a single at-large congressional delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives who has no voting authority. The city's voters choose three presidential electors in accordance with the Twenty-third Amendment.

This is my 2nd time using iQ for a move-out cleaning and they did fabulous, once again. No dusty surfaces, bathrooms looked like new, smelled fresh, and detail oriented. I accidentally left some dishes in the sink and they even cleaned them for me and called to confirm they shouldn’t throw out a couple items! Will continue to use them!

I worked with iQ cleaning for many years while working with AirBnB’s and for my own row house in DC. They were always decent enough to not fire, but NEVER quite professional enough to recommend to others. The last time I tried to book with them they didn’t show up on the date that was scheduled. When I called, they said their system was messed up and offer a free home cleaning based on the trouble and “no show”. When I called Nicole again for the cleaning they promised, I was told it was no older available, since Nicole was no longer with the company. Doesn’t make any sense. When I asked to speak to a manager to discuss further, the person on the telephone was rude, and promised a call back, which never happened. Very disappointed and unfortunately would look for a different cleaning service if I were you. They had the ability to make things right after failure, but only failed again.

I hired Swept Clean for a move out clean of my apartment, and I wish I had found them sooner. The place was left cleaner than when I moved in! The team’s communication, attention to detail, and customer service are phenomenal. Cannot recommend enough.

Highly recommend Quentin and his team. I returned home after a two-month trip, and found my refrigerator had powered off, leaving behind a putrid smell, bad food, and a breeding ground for fruit flies and worms inside. Quentin and his team came and helped me cleaned my refrigerator. Despite the challenging circumstances, the team tackled the bad odor and bugs with patience and efficiency. They also washed all drawers in the refrigerator. Very appreciated their hard work. Thanks so much to the Swept Clean team for not hesitating to take on the challenge of cleaning under less than ideal conditions. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of a thorough and professional cleaning job.

We were moving out of our house and reached out to three or four different companies. This one was by far the easiest and most efficient to work with, and that meant a lot at a time when things were so busy. They were easy to work with throughout and did a fantastic job getting our house in shape to sell. I definitely recommend! Thank you!

I have had the pleasure of having Quentin and the Swept Clean team service both my home and business. This family owned and operated company is reliable, top-notch, and trustworthy. Not only do they do a superior job cleaning, but they also do it on time and on budget. There are not many people I would trust with my keys to my home and my business. Swept Clean has both sets because I trust them.

Swept Clean is attempting to steal money from me and I will not have it.

Back in July, Swept Clean did not come to my home for a cleaning. After bringing this to their attention and a missed rescheduled appointment for back in February, they said they would reimburse me with a credit that would cover 3/4th of my August charge.

Well, August comes around and with no warning, I am charged over $200 more than I expected. Thinking it was an error, I let them know. It was at this time Swept Clean claims that 3 months out of the year, they clean the home 3 times and that August, coincidentally, was one of these months.

I signed a contract with them in January and they’ve been cleaning with me since February- this was never mentioned before and has never happened before. Every month they come twice and the payment is the same.

So I asked them what three months are these? He never explained. Then when pushed, claims that this is due to August being 31 days. That does not make any sense- there are 7 months with 31 days. Not 3. They have cleaned for me in March, May, and July- never once came three times.

Why is it that on a month when I have a credit applied to my account, magically there are three cleanings this month and I have to be charged extra?

Why was I not notified of three cleanings BEFORE the month?

    It’s funny how that goes.

If this is how Swept Clean does business, cool, but I will not be continuing with a company that will steal money from me.

I had a fantastic experience with eMaids of Washington DC. They were not only punctual but also highly professional. What really stood out was their consideration for my pets, which put me at ease. The best part was that the final bill matched the estimated price, so no surprises there. What truly sets them apart is their personable customer service – the representative I interacted with was incredibly helpful and made the entire process seamless. I had a deep cleaning service done of my three level townhouse, (three bedrooms, three bathrooms) and the maids did an excellent job. They were punctual and identified themselves upon arrival. They looked the house over and started to work. They were very detailed and went above and beyond in my three bathrooms and kitchen. I had a few areas that needed extra work. My bedrooms looked better than ever and the floors, living/dining rooms were left organized. I appreciated the extras they did like folding a few things I had left out and spruced up the area where my dog sleeps.

In all, I was very pleased. It was originally going to be a one time clean but now I am tri-weekly. Thank you eMaids. I will be telling my friends about my experience and recommending the company. I’m Looking forward to my next service.

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the wonderful experience I had with your cleaning service. I was blown away by how great, fast, and professional your team was.

From the moment your team arrived, I knew that I was in good hands. They were incredibly efficient in their work, and the results were truly remarkable. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to clean my house, and how thorough they were in their cleaning.

But what really stood out to me was just how professional your team was. They were friendly, courteous, and respectful throughout the entire process. They took great care to ensure that my home was cleaned to the highest standards, and they went above and beyond to make sure that I was completely satisfied with their work.

Overall, I had an amazing experience with your cleaning company, and I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient cleaning service. Thank you so much for all your hard work, and for making my home look and feel amazing!

My tenant had a major stoppage which backed up into the basement bathroom and outer room. I needed the bathroom cleaned and ready for an inspection and appraisal. After a few misstarts, Maki was able to get the house on the schedule and get the house back to it almost original condition. Certainly, the job was done spectacularly enough that the folks coming through had no idea my tenant had stopped up the main line to the street. I will use eMaids again. Absolutely.

  1. I was really disappointed by the quality of our “deep clean.” They sent a single person to do our one bedroom condo and it is clear that she wasn’t really interested. She brought very few cleaning supplies and no tools—she used our vacuum (which was fine, except that she didn’t empty the canister when she was done)—and spent well under 2 hours working. She left streaks on the mirrors and the stainless steel appliances, dirt on the living room rug, dust on the ceiling fan and the wood floors in the living room, cat barf on the kitchen floor (it was dry and vacuumed up easily), and she failed to wipe down the cabinets in the kitchen (the one service I specifically requested). She didn’t vacuum the sofa or chair in the living room, either, certainly something I consider part of a deep clean. To make things worse, no one from the company has responded to my concerns . I suggest you think hard before choosing thinkmaids.

  2. I have used Think Maids for their cleaning services about 5 times now. While each cleaning has not been absolutely perfect, their personnel has done a good job of making me feel like I’m coming to a clean house.

HOWEVER, recently I had quite possibly the worst cleaning experience ever. The cleaner came without a vacuum (each previous time the cleaners have had a vacuum), a swiffer, broom, and some other miscellaneous items. When I asked why he didn’t have a vacuum he said “we don’t need one if there is no carpet”………..I took out my own vacuum but he didn’t use it.

I came back when the cleaning was done to find my apartment feeling like, well, it wasn’t cleaned at all. There was lint and dirt under the bed, and it wasn’t just a small area, it was a good half of the space. The same under the couch. There were SHOE MARKS all over the floor. (Who doesn’t take their shoes off or bring shoe covers?!) There was also some kind of yellowish gel on the floor (see photo) that honestly looked like snot. I passed a quick swiffer in the living room area and it came out dirty (see photo). The bathtub had also not been cleaned. I basically ended up having to clean up after the cleaning service.

When I texted the person that coordinated with me, she was unhelpful and unwilling to give me a full refund and offered to send the same cleaner back out (????). They ended up giving me a 30% discount – as if that makes things better after having to CLEAN UP after the cleaners.

After my experience today with a poor service and poor customer service, I will not be using this service again.

  3. Very disappointed. While the cleaner was nice and respectful, we are not happy with the service provided. It was very expensive and they did not make the beds, did not wipe down the cabinets in the kitchen, did not wipe down our coffee tables, did not move anything out of the way for vacuuming (only vacuumed the easy to reach places), did not dust thoroughly, and did not wipe down several surfaces. The house smelled overwhelmingly like lemon pine sol but I don’t understand why as it doesn’t seem like much cleaning was done. They did do a good job on the master bathroom and cleaning the kitchen range, but we are otherwise disappointed for having paid over $400. Will not be using this service again.

  4. I used them to “deep clean” my apartment before moving in. They were about 30 minutes later than the window they were supposed to arrived and they were “done cleaning” in about 30 minutes. There were two cleaners. The place was not deep cleaned. I will never use their services again.
